Connect Earth's carbon insights API is designed to integrate seamlessly with banking and financial applications, providing users with actionable carbon footprint data based on their transactions. This innovative API helps consumers and businesses understand their environmental impact and make more sustainable choices.

Over the past year, Connect Earth's API has processed over 1 billion transactions, offering carbon footprint estimates to over 250,000 users. By embedding this technology into banking apps, we empower users to track the carbon emissions of their daily spending. This real-time insight facilitates more conscious decision-making and supports a transition to a lower carbon economy​.

Our project team have onboarded seventeen services to EPS to date, however the system is only one part of the digital transformation process, with the EPS project team leading on mapping how EPS can support digital transformation within each clinical area, the associated benefits, and how it aligns with MPFT’s green aspirations and strategy.

The EPS innovation supports net zero digital sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint associated with prescription deliveries by prescribers and patients, significantly reducing paper usage, enhancing patient safety, and saving significant time. EPS eliminates the need for physical prescription handling and transportation, whilst also streamlining the prescribing process, allowing healthcare professionals to allocate more time to patient care. This demonstrates a substantial commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. Core feedback from prescribers includes: “It saved me between 2 to 4 hours of work time a week and significantly reduced logistical issues around prescriptions.”

This makes it easy for consumers to find and send an eco friendly gift without the worry of greenwashing.

Our route into GreenTech & Sustainability was the development of our own ‘Website Sustainability Auditing’ tool. The purpose of the tool is to help companies understand the estimated amount of carbon their websites and digital services emit per page request. There’s a common misconception that as websites are hosted in the ‘cloud’ there isn't much impact.

Unfortunately, this is not the case.

The IT and Communications industry as a whole creates more greenhouse gas emissions than the aviation industry every single year. This is the problem our idea is aiming to solve.

Off the back of developing our ‘Website Sustainability Auditing’ tool, we also started GreenTech Gathering - A relaxed and informal networking event series for individuals and organisations interested in sustainability to connect in person and expand their networking in the North. Each event receives 70 - 120 business professionals all focused on making the world a better place through their businesses.

The Mobilityways Dashboard, a B2B SaaS product, integrates all zero carbon commuting tools into a single platform. This empowers employers to measure, reduce, and report commuter emissions effectively. The suite facilitates evidence gathering, tracking, planning, and behavioural change initiatives related to commuting emissions.

It allows transport teams to gather comprehensive data, offering visibility into commuting challenges and suggesting sustainable travel alternatives. This proprietary technology is uniquely dedicated to decarbonising commutes, assisting employers to:

Calculate an organisation’s total and average commuter emissions
Identify employees' potential for sustainable commuting
Facilitate carpooling to save costs and reduce parking demand

The Climate Data Portal is an open web portal which enables access to a range of climate data. It features guidance and information on the data available. It allows easy navigation between data layers and the data can be displayed and analysed on a simple map viewer within the portal, as well as downloaded in a range of formats including csv, other geospatial formats such as shapefile, PowerBI, and linked to via API. It features a mix of Projections (UKCP18) and Observations (HadUK) data layers covering temperature, precipitation, wind and sea level rise as well as Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) data. It is positioned at users who don’t have specialist knowledge of climate data, but also makes it easier for those with more advanced climate experience to access data in the easiest format for them to integrate with other data and operations they have on GIS platforms.

Fotenix’s idea is to empower farmers with advanced technology that helps them grow better crops with fewer resources. They use special cameras that can “see” things the human eye can’t, like early signs of disease or drought in crops. This technology allows farmers to spot problems quickly, so they can take action before it’s too late.

By giving farmers this kind of early warning system, Fotenix helps them use less water, reduce the need for chemicals, and make smarter decisions about how to care for their crops. This not only saves money but also leads to healthier, more resilient crops. Fotenix’s goal is to make farming more efficient and sustainable, helping farmers produce more food with less impact on the environment. In short, Fotenix is all about giving farmers the tools they need to succeed in a changing world.

The NSTA is committed to creating value through digital innovation. To achieve this, The NDR was originally developed and held by a third-party organisation as an on-premises solution with 1GB download limits and little data validation. This was problematic as the data was not within our control and resulted in vendor lock-in, breaching Government standards.

To resolve this, the service was brought in-house by transferring the data into an Azure cloud solution with a new front end designed with our partner, Osokey. In future, should we decide to switch vendors, we can replace the front end and retain rights and access to the data.

We have also readied the NDR to accommodate new data to satisfy our roles in carbon capture & storage and hydrogen.
